What to expect and how to prepare for your first class:

*Plan to come to your first class 10-15 minutes early to register and go over studio procedures.
*Wear comfortable clothing.
*Turn off cell phones.
*Leave shoes in the shoe cubbies.  Do not enter the studio space with shoes on.
*We have mats you can rent for $2. We encourage all students to purchase their own mat.
*If you have health issues, please arrive early to communicate with your teacher.
*Please do not wear strong scents to class.
*We encourage students to create an online account for classes. Use Mindbody Connect App to conveniently preregister for classes.
*Leave things better than you found them. A principle practice of yoga is Saucha, cleanliness. Respectfully replace props and keep bathroom and cubby area tidy.
*Read our newsletter. We send out one newsletter per month with updates to our schedule, information about cancellations and upcoming workshops/series.

Each of our classes begins with a short period of centering and meditation. If you come to class late, please wait for this initial portion of class to end before coming into the studio. You will know you can enter class once we stretch our arms up and begin moving.

Purna Yoga classes

The aim of Purna Yoga is to connect students to their heart center, while working mindfully and safely in the physical body. Our classes emphasize the foundations.  Wether you are absolutely new to yoga, or have practiced for many years, the foundations are always at play.  Learn techniques to help build flexibility, strength, tone, relaxation, focus, balance, endurance and much more in a way that opens your heart and welcomes light, love and beauty into your life.

Modifications are offered to support the most beginner student while also allowing a seasoned practitioner to feel challenged. The classes may seem demanding at times but rest assured that your teachers are well trained and will offer you the proper props and tools so your practice is safe and moves you towards your edge organically.

Unwind

Unwind from you day with gentle stretches, slow movement, supported postures and deep breathing. Emphasis is placed on decompressing and creating ease in the body and mind.  The intention is to support the body and allow the muscles and organs to relax thereby allowing for rejuvenation and restoration in the gross to subtle body. Highly recommended for everyone living life and esp. useful for those rehabilitating from minor injuries, conditions such as high blood pressure, anxiety, fatigue,  etc. also a great balance to a vigorous practice.  If there are major injuries or conditions, such as parkinson’s, fibromyalgia, heard conditions, hip replacements, lower back injuries, knee replacements, etc contact Rutu for private sessions.

Meditation

Learn to connect with your spirit in your Heart Center through meditation and guided imagery. We recommend attending at least four classes to give yourself the chance to feel the difference meditation can make in your life. Unlike other forms of meditation, Purna Yoga Meditation does not initially focus on quieting the mind. Instead, the mind is taught to listen to and act upon the wisdom of the heart.

Concentrate in the heart. Enter into it; go within and deep and far, as far as you can. Gather all the strings of your consciousness that are spread abroad, roll them up and take a plunge and sink down. A fire is burning there in the deep quietude of the heart. It is the Divinity in you – your true being. Hear its voice, follow its dictates. - The Mother, Pondicherry, India
